Danny Fischer. [photography/writing]

Although Danny Fischer just recently became interested in photography, he is already showing a style and skill that is interesting and promising, and I'm excited to see what he comes up with in the future. He also calls the Cincinnati, Ohio area home.

You can find his photos here:

Besides photography, Danny is also interested in writing. He writes verses, blogs, and plans to write a book one day.

You can read some of his work here:

Danny agreed to let me interview for this site, even though it's still really new, and I liked reading what he had to say to my questions. So here it is:
Who/what first drew you to photography?
Umm.. I always appreciated Brian Luman’s pictures and his take on them. Then I met Meredith and around the same time I found a bunch of old film cameras in my cabinet. I found 2 or 3 rolls of expired film also. I shot one roll, got it developed found only 2 pictures I liked but that’s when I fell in love with photography.

What inspires you, and your art?
I like to shoot pictures of things that stand out from others. Pictures with great shadows and good lighting, and anything that speaks to me.

What's the best kind of light to shoot in?
I like shooting at night. I think the shadows and the lights add more dynamics to the photo.

Film or digital; and why?
Film. You cant beat the way that film looks.

What do you do, besides take pictures?
I skateboard and I write occasionally. [http://dannyfischer.wordpress.com/]

What direction do you see your art going in the future?
I don’t really know at this point. I would love for it to be in galleries and to make money off of my pictures but I don’t think I am at that level yet.

Do you like living around Cincinnati? Or would you rather be somewhere else?
I hate Cincinnati. I would love to get out of here, go somewhere warm, or a small town somewhere where all of the people are just genuinely good people.

What's one of your best memories from shooting?
Going to Dutchland woods with sparklers and then to the ponds in my neighborhood. That was an amazing night.

What's something that not a lot of people know about you?
I don’t really know. I don’t really hide anything its kind of, “what you see is what you get”, with me. Most people don’t really seem me as being sensitive though which in my opinion I think I am.

Dream vacation?
Rural China. The landscape seems so beautiful and the vibe seems so relaxed and peaceful.

Who are some artists (not just photographers, but musicians, writers, etc.) that you look up to?
Lupe Fiasco and XV. Their way with words is insane and their vocabulary is endless. I look up to Brian Luman a lot too, he is an amazing photographer and his outlook on life is inspiring.

What is a typical day in the life of Danny like?
Well, its never boring. Ha it usually starts off with waking up early, flickr/uploading, maybe some school. Skateboarding and/or shooting some pictures. Then staying up ridiculously late for no reason at all.

What's your number one goal for your work right now?
Just to keep progressing, keep shooting, and having fun.

Anything else you want to say?
I’m in the process of writing an autobiography about all of the hardships life has given me and how I’ve overcome terrible problems in life. I'll post a link to my blog. [http://dannyfischer.wordpress.com/]

And here are some of Danny's photographs, which can also be seen on flickr:

Brian Luman. [photography]

Brian Luman is a sixteen-year-old photographer, skateboarder, and all-around amazing person from the Cincinnati, Ohio area. His work is here:
http://www.flickr.com/brianluman

and here:

and he has also been featured on multiple photography and art websites.

Brian was nice enough to be my first bipolarbear interview, so I asked him some questions and answers, and here is what we came up with:
How long have you been into photography?
"Not long enough... maybe 2 years. Something like that."

What's the craziest thing that's ever happened to you when you were taking photographs?
"When those bad ass security guards held our film hostage. hahahah." [Brian, our friend Danny, and I were 'trespassing' at a steel mill in a town close to ours, just taking pictures of the industry, and this crazy, power-tripping security guard confiscated all our film. It was kind of awesome, actually. We turned it into a good time.]
Dream place to shoot?
"Pretty much anywhere. Urban environments are nice though."

Favorite piece of work? (You can pick more than one if you can't decide).
"This is the hardest question to answer. But if i had to choose it would be between these...

The list changes just about everyday."

Any music you think everyone should be listening to?
"Track Aesthetics. Abduction mixtape coming in a few months." [http://www.myspace.com/trackaesthetics].

Favorite song to play on repeat?
"I don't really have an answer for this."
Something not a lot of people know about you:
"I'm pretty open about stuff. But lately I have had this terrible feeling that someone else is controlling me. Its very hard to explain but its almost like nothing is real anymore."

Who/what inspires you?
"I'll just make a list. William Eggleston, Stephen Shore, Kingdom Hearts, various books, my mom, hip hop, and 205 contacts I have on flickr."

What are your goals for the future, in regards to your art?
"Get work into both MOMA NY and SF along with as many other museums and galleries I can.
Selling prints to make a living would be nice but that is a long ways away."

Anything else you want to say?
"I love skateboarding."

And in closing, for your eyes' enjoyment, some of Brian's photographs:

smiling like i was new

Welcome to bipolarbear! I've wanted a place like this for a while, and I don't have philosophy homework tonight, so I'm making my dream a reality. :b
But really, all kidding aside, this is going to be great. Once or twice (or three times) a week, I'll interview someone that I look up to when it comes to art (in any form; writing, photography, illustration, graphic art, painting, etc.) and post some of their work and a link to their site on this page.
If you want to be featured, just send me an email, and I'd be more than happy to talk to you.
Thanks for stopping by! :]
